The Syrian Petroleum Company (SPC) announced an increase in the number of Iraqi tankers unloaded daily at the Baniyas refinery, reaching approximately 500 tankers. This measure aims to enhance operational readiness and accelerate the pace of oil supplies.
This development came, according to a company statement published on Saturday, after the implementation of technical and engineering works inside the refinery. These works contributed to increasing the operational capacity by approximately 30 percent.
The improvements also led to saving approximately 40 working hours daily, reflecting a significant improvement in operational efficiency. These results confirm the effectiveness of the measures taken to enhance performance.
The company clarified that these results were achieved due to the reorganization of discharge routes and the enablement of direct pumping operations to dedicated tanks. This contributes to accelerating completion and improving workflow.
The company affirmed that this step ensures the continued supply of petroleum derivatives to the local market, in light of the challenges facing the energy sector. Work continues on implementing further technical improvements.
In a related context, the Iraqi Ministry of Oil announced last Friday the launch of work on a strategic project to extend an oil pipeline between Basra and Haditha. This step revives the oil route towards Syria.
The project aims to connect the pipeline to Baniyas port, as part of a plan to expand crude oil export outlets and reduce reliance on traditional routes. The pipeline extends 700 kilometers with a capacity of 2.5 million barrels per day.
The Ministry's spokesperson, Sahab Bazoun, stated that the project will enable the export of Iraqi oil through three main routes. The most prominent of these is the Syrian route towards Baniyas, alongside Ceyhan in Turkey, and the city of Aqaba in Jordan.
