The company confirmed on its official Facebook page the successful completion of the first electronic payment operation via Visa and Mastercard networks in Syria. Bimera considers this step a significant advancement in the digital transformation of the Syrian financial sector.
Completion of Technical Requirements
Bimera stated that it has completed all necessary technical and logistical requirements to submit an official request to the Central Bank of Syria. This request aims to obtain approval for international electronic payment services, as part of its plan to develop digital payment solutions that align with global standards.
Mastercard's Readiness for International Transactions
In a related context, Mastercard announced last Thursday its technical readiness to process international card transactions within Syria. This step is an extension of the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Central Bank of Syria on September 23, 2025, which aims to develop the digital payments infrastructure.
Central Bank of Syria's Decision
The Central Bank of Syria issued Decision No. /259/, which permits banking institutions and licensed payment companies to deal with global payment networks such as Visa and Mastercard. This decision paves the way for a new phase of openness to international financial systems.
