The Syrian Development Fund (SYDF) announced a comprehensive update to its online platform (sydf.syria), with the aim of enhancing transparency, facilitating donation processes, and supporting development projects in Syria. The updated platform enables direct donation, interaction via comments on campaigns, project tracking, and multi-currency wallet support, in addition to opening job and volunteering opportunities.
This update follows the establishment of the fund pursuant to Presidential Decree No. 112 of 2025, as a national economic instrument with financial and administrative independence. This new government approach reflects a move towards transparency, community participation, and reliance on crowdfunding for reconstruction and development.
The Fund was established pursuant to Presidential Decree No. 112 of 2025 during the presidency of President Ahmed Al-Sharaa. It enjoys financial and administrative independence and is directly linked to the Presidency of the Republic, which grants it flexibility and speed in decision-making. The Fund is considered a national economic institution, and not merely a charitable or humanitarian entity, despite receiving donations.
The fund aims to finance development projects that include infrastructure, services, housing, education, health, energy, and water, which are projects the government cannot fully finance from its budget.
To enhance transparency in managing donation and aid funds, the Fund announced the launch of an interactive, traceable electronic platform. This contributes to mobilizing resources from Syrians at home and abroad, friendly countries, international organizations, and the private sector. According to its organizers, the interactive platform contributes to empowering the community to participate in determining development priorities through comments and direct interaction.
The updated direct donation system enables the management of donations, allowing individuals, companies, and institutions to donate via the platform easily and securely. This reduces reliance on intermediaries or brokers and minimizes opportunities for corruption or the leakage of funds.
Interactive features are an important factor that enables citizens or donors to ask questions of project managers, suggest ideas or modifications, report any violations, delays, or corruption, and express their support or criticism publicly. This subjects the fund and projects to direct community oversight, enhancing transparency and accountability.
The platform also allows the donor and the general public to follow the project's development from fundraising until final completion. Donations can be made in Syrian Pounds, US Dollars, Euros, Yen, Yuan, and multi-currency financial wallets, which contributes to attracting donations from abroad, whether from Syrians in the diaspora, donor countries, or foreign investors.
