Syria's Ministry of Economy and Industry issued a decision setting the purchase price for first-grade durum wheat for the 2026 agricultural season. According to Decision No. 94 of 2025, the price per ton of bagged wheat has been set at 46,000 Syrian pounds.
Government Decision Details
The announced price covers first-grade durum wheat. Executive instructions regarding the implementation and reception mechanism are expected to be issued later. This decision is part of the government's preparations for the upcoming grain season and the regulation of agricultural crop purchasing operations.
Harvest Reception Preparations
In a related context, the Syrian Grains Establishment confirmed on May 2nd that it is implementing a comprehensive plan to rehabilitate and modernize wheat storage facilities. This step aims to enhance strategic reserves and efficiently accommodate expected quantities.
Grain Storage Infrastructure
The Director-General of the Establishment, Hassan Al-Othman, explained that the Establishment's storage infrastructure includes 37 silos and 98 smaller silos, in addition to 14 warehouses and 27 open-air centers. He noted that part of these facilities is ready for investment, while the rest are undergoing rehabilitation work.
Syria's Wheat Self-Sufficiency
Al-Othman also affirmed that Syria does not need to import wheat this year, at a minimum according to initial estimates, thanks to positive indicators for the agricultural season and current production levels. The country's annual wheat requirement is approximately 2.55 million tons.
Production and Supply Indicators
The Director of the Establishment stated that the currently available quantities, from marketed and contracted production, are approaching one million tons. Al-Othman estimated the quantities received so far at approximately 1.5 million tons, with expectations of improved production as harvesting and supply operations continue.
