The Central Commission for Control and Inspection in Syria announced the collection of over 551 thousand US dollars, in addition to completing hundreds of oversight cases during the past month of April. These measures come within the Commission's efforts to combat corruption and enhance oversight of public institutions in the country.
Total collections and discovered amounts
The Authority's performance report revealed that the amounts collected reached 62.368 million new Syrian Pounds, in addition to 551.933 thousand US dollars. The value of the requested and discovered amounts also reached approximately 13.5 billion new Syrian Pounds, which is equivalent to 119.2 million US dollars.
Referred Cases and Measures Taken
The report indicated the completion of 271 oversight cases during April, with 35 of them referred to the judiciary. In the same context, the authority referred 270 individuals to the judiciary and 9 others for disciplinary action, while the number of those disciplined reached 189 individuals.
Objectives of the Supervisory Campaign
These measures are part of a government oversight campaign aimed at improving the efficiency of public institutions and addressing financial and administrative irregularities. Through this, the government seeks to enhance transparency and accountability within the public sector.
Results of the first quarter of the current year
April's results come after a previous announcement regarding the first quarter results, with 865 cases completed during January, 618 individuals referred to the judiciary, 67 individuals to the disciplinary court, and 1023 individuals disciplined.
Previous financial collections
In the first quarter, the Authority recorded the collection of 10 billion and 518 million old Syrian pounds in January. Also, 180 million and 390 thousand new Syrian pounds were collected in February, and 43 million and 494 thousand new Syrian pounds in March.
Future plans to strengthen oversight
The Authority is working on implementing a plan to restructure the internal control directorates to enhance their independence and raise their efficiency. It also revealed plans to utilize technologies in the governance of oversight reports, by training systems on Syrian legislation.
Statements by the Head of the Authority
The head of the commission, Amer Al-Ali, announced last March the launch of a comprehensive plan that includes evaluating and training staff, completing the numerical staffing complement, and approving new work systems to make supervisory bodies more effective in promoting integrity.
